Yesterday Parity, an Ethereum client, reported that 153 000 ethers worth $30 million were stolen due to the critical vulnerability of their multi signature wallet. The funds stolen potentially belong to ICO projects based on Ethereum, including Edgeless Casino, Swarm City, and æternity.
Being an anonymous exchange providing fully automated instant transactions, Changelly likely was up against the fraud and became the point the stolen money has been exchanged through. Supposed hackers might have used coinmixed and partially transferred the amount through Changelly.
Luckily, the Ethereum blockchain is transparent, so we have easily figured out and blacklisted the compromised wallet addresses. However, in order to completely protect funds from theft, there is a need for more measures to be taken.
Changelly is always ready to collaborate with wallets, exchanges and notable owners to improve security and data defense. Currently we’re in touch with the investigation team of Parity, Etherscan, MyEtherWallet and others.
